Experienced pharmacists to support on-site pharmacist

Fairfax, MO – Community Hospital in Fairfax, MO is pleased to announce that they have partnered with The Nebraska Medical Center Remote Pharmacy Care program to expand the oversight of medications used within the hospital to twenty-four hours, 365 days year. The partnership reinforces the important work of Community Hospital’s onsite pharmacist, Harold Lawrence, RP, who provides day-to-day pharmacy care, medication safety oversight, and patient and family education.   Lawrence works in close cooperation with the providers at Community Hospital and Clinic to enhance patient education and medication monitoring and follow-up.  This new partnership allows for those medication safety practices to occur even when he is not physically present in the hospital.

"I appreciate the opportunity for collaboration and consultation with my pharmacist colleagues,” Lawrence said. “This additional level of safety to the medication use process provides immediate patient benefit as well as enhanced resources available to the providers and other clinical staff.”

The pharmacists who staff that The Nebraska Medical Center Remote Pharmacy Care program will insure that all safety activities occur even though they are working at sites remotely located from the hospital.   The remote service is staffed 24 hours each day, every day of the year by experienced and knowledgeable hospital pharmacists whose primary responsibility is to provide service to remote sites. They communicate via secure online video links. The overall intent of the program is to achieve a twenty four-hour pharmacist presence to improve medication-related outcomes and be a consistent source of medication information to the health professionals at Community Hospital.  The new expanded service was initiated January 24, 2014.
