Community Hospital-Fairfax (CH-F) is thrilled to announce that Ophthalmology Services, including cataract surgery, will return to the Northwest Missouri community beginning in July of 2019. Chetan Soni M.D. will begin seeing patients on July 19, 2019 on an outpatient basis and will be ready to provide cataract surgery in the early fall of 2019.
Chetan Soni, M.D., M.S., MHA, is a board-certified ophthalmologist. He specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma care and surgery, laser surgery, eye muscle surgery and eyelid surgery. Dr. Soni sees patients in Bolivar, MO in addition to the new clinic in Fairfax.
Risk of cataracts grows with each decade of age. According to the National Eye Institute, 17% of the overall population will experience cataracts. By age 80, between 60 and 70% of adults will have cataracts.
“Today, many of our patients are traveling 60 or more miles to get cataract surgery. This causes many to delay this important surgery which can cause safety and quality of life issues. We are looking forward to offering this service at CH-F again” commented Chief Medical Officer, Aron Burke M.D.
Leslie Wittman O.D., Optometrist at Vision Source located in Fairfax, is excited about the continuity of care this will offer her patients.
She explained, “I have really enjoyed serving the patients of Northwest Missouri with optometry needs. I’m very excited to refer my patients with cataracts right down the street in an environment where they comfortable.”
