Wrapping Presents, Crafting. These were things to Celebrate this Holiday Season for Shelley Eaton

Shelley Eaton started her Community Hospital-Fairfax (CH-F) therapy journey at the end of June 2019 after a surgery left her with no movement in her right arm. Normal everyday activities like getting dressed and cooking were made nearly impossible.

After attending three sessions per week of occupational therapy with her Occupational Therapy team including Susan Grispino, OTR/L, CHT and Jodi Yocum, COTA/L from June to present, Shelley had a lot to celebrate this holiday season. Therapy has helped her to increase function in her hand to assist with daily activities, and to do some of the things she loves such as crafting and wrapping presents.

Susan and Jodi have been truly inspired by Shelley’s attitude and determination. Susan shared, “Shelley is really inspiring. She never gives up and every day keeps working. She is fearless and does not permit anything to hold her back.”

When Shelley first came to Rehab at Fairfax, she could not even hold the equipment necessary to measure her grip strength and functionality. On December 12, 2019, she completed all the testing on her own.

“I absolutely would recommend Community Hospital-Fairfax Rehab. Every single person I’ve worked with has been overly kind and helpful. At first, I tried therapy while in Omaha, but it was not the right therapy for me. I thought I would receive better therapy in Omaha than here in Fairfax. No! Therapy was much better in Fairfax then in Omaha” Shelley shared.

Community Hospital-Fairfax Rehabilitation Services include physical, occupational and speech therapy for inpatient, skilled, outpatient and home bound patients. Services are provided at the hospital in Fairfax and at Holt County Outpatient Services located in Mound City. For more information about CH-F Rehab Services, call (660) 686-2334.
