Community Hospital Facts

  • The new name represents a return to the hospital’s roots. Founded by the Fairfax Kiwanis Club, it opened on November 7, 1949 as Fairfax Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri.
  • In 1975, the hospital was renamed Community Hospital Association.
  • Community Hospital is a not-for-profit hospital. It receives no funding from taxes and is supported through community gifting and paid medical services.
  • Community Hospital is the largest employer in both Holt and Atchison Counties with 115 staff members. An additional 15 contracted employees regularly work there.
  • The hospital is the primary healthcare provider for Atchison and Holt counties. It also serves portions of Nodaway County.
  • Community Hospital operates Holt County Outpatient Services in Mound City offering cardiac rehabilitation, physical, occupational and speech therapies, and diabetes education. It also provides home health services to those patients who are unable to make clinic or hospital visits.
  • In 2007, Community Hospital handled 2,944 Emergency Room visits; delivered 63 babies; performed 215 surgeries; made 1,667 home health visits; and coordinated 8,124 physical, occupational and speech therapy sessions.
