Compassionate Care. Close to home.

Husband, wife join team at NW Health Services and CH-F

Dr. Eduardo Fernandez and his wife, Dr. Maria Espejo are a perfect couple. For Community Hospital-Fairfax and Mound City’s Northwest Health Services, finding the pair of doctors has been a match made in heaven.

During his residency training in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Fernandez was introduced to Mound City through a recruiting agency. Northwest Health Services had a need for two doctors and invited Dr. Espejo to join their team as well after her residency was finished the following year.

Dr. Fernandez moved to Mound City first and assured his wife she would like the community.

“He told me it was nice here and the people were very helpful,” Dr. Espejo said.

Now that both doctors are settling in Mound City; Dr. Fernandez in the health clinic and Dr. Espejo in its annex, they are getting used to the small-town feel of their new home.

“I like that I will get to know my patients better and form relationships with them and their families and continuing their care,” Dr. Espejo said.

Dr. Espejo explained that providing medical services in a bigger town prevented her from seeing her patients long-term. She enjoys the thought of seeing new moms through all of their pregnancies and forming a special relationship with them.

Dr. Fernandez and Dr. Espejo are active staff members at Community Hospital with admitting privileges and will use the facilities at Community Hospital-Fairfax to care for their patients.

The couple enjoys traveling and watching sports; they plan to watch the U.S. Open in New York in the future and are planning a trip home to the Philippines next year.

Their transition to life in Missouri is coming along nicely and Community Hospital-Fairfax and Northwest Health Clinic are proud to have the couple as part of their team.
